  • Vanessa Paolella '21, Women's Track and Field

    Paolella finished the mile in 5:02.66 at the Tufts Last Chance Meet, moving her into sixth place on Bates' all-time top 10 list in the event. Paolella's time -- her personal best by six seconds - was good for a 13th seed entering this week's NCAA Championships.
  • Ryan Nealis '21, Men's Track and Field

    Nealis led all 15 competitors in the mile at the Tufts Last Chance Meet, finishing in a personal-record time of 4:11.99, moving into 10th place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event. Nealis will be the third seed out of 20 men in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
  • Amanda Kaufman '21, Women's Track and Field
    March 02, 2020
    Junior captain Amanda Kaufman lowered her personal-best time by 0.02 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second in the finals in 8.97 seconds. Kaufman ranks 18th in the country in the event. She also helped Bates place third in the 4x400 relay.
  • Brendan Donahue '20, Men's Track and Field
    March 02, 2020
    Senior captain Brendan Donahue provided a big Bates highlight, scoring a career-high 4,861 points to place third in the heptathlon at the New England Division III Indoor Championships. Donahue notched a career-best high jump of 6'3.5" and a career-best 1,000-meter run (3:01.40), and led the field in the pole vault (13'7.25"). Donahue's score leapfrogged him over David Hardison '13 and onto second place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event, behind only Eric Wainman's '15 record 5,201 points. Donahue moved into 10th place in the national rankings in the heptathlon.
  • Andrew Hall '22, Men's Swimming and Diving

    Hall earned All-NESCAC honors in the 400-yard IM, highlighting a versatile performance at the NESCAC Championships. He also helped Bates place fourth in the 800 free relay, fourth in the 400 medley relay and fourth in the 200 medley relay. Individually, Hall placed seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke and ninth in the 200 IM.
  • Gabby Smart '23, Women's Swimming and Diving
    February 24, 2020
    Smart won the conference title in the 200-yard backstroke at the NESCAC Championships. It was her third top-two finish at the meet: she placed second in the 500 freestyle on Friday (4:54.93) and second in the 400 individual medley on Saturday.
  • Elise Lambert '22, Women's Track and Field
    February 10, 2020
    Lambert pulled away for the victory in the final lap of the 4x800 relay, lifting the Bates women's track and field team into a tie with host Bowdoin for first place at the Maine State Indoor Women's Track & Field Championships Saturday night. She also placed first in the 600 meters (PR of 1:37.32) and second in the high jump.

    Rex captured the Peter Goodrich Memorial Award for field athletes at the Maine State Meet. He won the weight throw with a new personal record of 60'8". Rex also won the shot put (49'2.25") to score 20 points for the Bobcats.
  • Kaelyn Woods '20, Women's Nordic Skiing
    February 03, 2020
    Woods placed a season-high 14th among 81 women in the 5-kilometer freestyle at the Colby Carnival, with a time of 14:39.7, earning 29 carnival points and scoring 20 NCAA qualifying points. She followed that up by placing 14th out of 76 women with a time of 35:53.0 in the 10K classic.
  • Andrew Hall '22, Men's Swimming and Diving

    Hall won the 100-yard IM at the WPI Invitational in a team-record time of 52.40 seconds, beating the previous record of 52.79 set by Alex Bedard in 2016. Hall also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.86).
  • Katie Manternach '21, Women's Squash
    January 27, 2020
    Manternach ran her winning streak to six straight matches with a pair of wins at the No. 4 position in a 2-0 week for the Bobcats. Bates is 9-3 as a team and Manternach sports a personal record of 9-3 as well.
  • Benni McComish '20, Men's Squash
    January 27, 2020
    McComish won twice at the No. 7 position in a 2-0 week for the Bobcats. He was the only Bates men's squash player to win both his matches against No. 20 Colby and No. 15 Middlebury respectively, both 5-4 wins for Bates.
  • Hannah West '21, Women's Alpine Skiing
    January 20, 2020
    West led the Bates women's alpine skiing team in the slalom and the giant slalom at the Harvard Carnival. She placed 11th in the slalom and 17th in the GS over the weekend at Waterville Valley.
  • Omar Sarr '23, Men's Basketball
    January 20, 2020
    Sarr was a force at both ends of the floor, particularly on defense, in a 1-1 week for the Bobcats. He posted a 15-point, 18-rebound, 6-block performance in a 98-81 win over Hamilton. Sarr shot 11-for-18 (61.1%) from the field on the week and averaged 13.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 6.0 blocked shots per game.
  • Kyle Jorgensen '22, Men's Swimming and Diving
    January 13, 2020
    Jorgensen won the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.60) against Middlebury, leading a 1-2-3-4 Bates sweep in the event. Jorgensen also took first place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.58).
  • Mia Roy '22, Women's Basketball
    January 13, 2020
    Roy broke out with 24 points and seven steals, both career highs, to lead the Bates women's basketball team to its second straight road victory, 58-41 at Norwich University on Wednesday. Then she followed that up Sunday with 14 points in a 65-56 win over Wesleyan in the NESCAC opener for Bates.
  • Nathan Berry '23, Men's Swimming and Diving

    Berry won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.71 seconds and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (48.19) at Dartmouth. He also helped Bates win the 400 medley relay by 2.49 seconds in a time of 3:30.85.

    Smart won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:36.03, then went on to take first place in the 200 backstroke (2:08.25) Saturday at Dartmouth.

    Spellman averaged 17.7 points per game in a 3-0 week for the Bobcats, including his fourth career double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds) in a 72-58 non-conference win at Bowdoin.
  • Meghan Graff '22, Women's Basketball
    December 09, 2019
    Graff averaged 23 points per game in a 2-1 week for the Bobcats, including a career-high 26 points in Bates' 67-52 win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine. She leads the NESCAC in scoring through eight games, averaging 18.6 points per contest.

    Greenhalgh’s steal and layup in the final four seconds sealed a 71-68 win for the men's basketball team at Southern Maine. Greenhalgh finished the game with 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting, with six assists, four rebounds, and four steals.

    Berens totaled eight points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots, all season-highs, in the Bates women's basketball team's road non-conference game at the University of Southern Maine.

    With only three runners remaining from its NCAA team a year ago, the Bates women's cross country team finished an improbably great 2019 season at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday by placing 14th out of 32 teams, the team's best-ever national finish. First-year Jillian Richardson led the Bobcats for the fifth time in six races this season, finishing 59th out of 280 runners in 22:29.6 over 6 kilometers.
  • Tucker Barber '21, Men's Cross Country

    A great season ended with a hard-fought struggle for the No. 23 nationally ranked Bates men's cross country team, as the Bobcats placed 32nd at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships held Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. Junior Tucker Barber finished 135th out of 280 individuals to lead Bates, covering the 8-kilometer course in 25:40.9.
  • Henry Raff '22, Men's Cross Country
    November 18, 2019
    Raff had a breakout race Saturday by finishing 37th overall at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at Bowdoin. He raced to the finish in a career-best 25:52.1.
  • Jordan Wilson '23, Women's Cross Country

    Wilson came in 59th place to complete the Bates women's cross country team's scoring at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on Saturday. Bates finished fourth among 54 teams, tied for its best team finish since 1997.

    Sophomore Sean Bryant caught three touchdown passes and the Bates football team rallied from 21 points down to defeat the Hamilton College Continentals 26-21 Saturday afternoon, concluding the 2019 season in style.

    Stafford-Smith recorded seven kills, six digs and one block in the NESCAC quarterfinals against Wesleyan.
  • Tyler Bridge '23, Football
    November 04, 2019
    Bridge rushed for a season-high 188 yards and the Bates football team routed Bowdoin by a final score of 30-5 Saturday night at Garcelon Field. He recorded the most individual rushing yards in a game for Bates since Sean Atkins ran for 302 against Bowdoin in 2002.
  • Tara Ellard '22, Women's Cross Country
    November 04, 2019
    Two weeks after running a career-best 6K time at Oberlin, Ellard turned in another huge performance, placing third among the Bobcats and 21st overall to help Bates take third at the 2019 NESCAC Women's Cross Country Championships.
