
Bates Aquatics offers open swim hours in Tarbell Pool for the campus community complete with equipment to enhance your workout such as fins, pull buoys and kick boards. There are also a variety of swim programs including youth lessons and the Bobcats Swim Camp.

POOL HOURS OF OPERATION
POOL GUIDELINES & PROCEDURES
- All users are expected to adhere to all policies of the athletic facilities.
- Face coverings are required at all times.
- Face covering may be removed for lap swimming but should be worn onto the pool deck and only removed just prior to entering the water and replaced immediately upon exiting the water.
- Registration is required for use of the facilities. Register for Open Swim on IMLeagues (link).
- Merrill Gymnasium locker rooms are closed except for use of the restrooms. Users are encouraged to wear swim attire to the facility since changing spaces will be closed. Showers are closed.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- No running or rough play in the pool and locker room areas.
- No flips, back dives, or twists from edge of pool.
- No use of diving boards or starting blocks is allowed. All diving must take place in deep end.
- No hanging, sitting, or climbing on lane lines.
- Kickboards, pull buoys, fins, aqua jog belts and other aquatic equipment are only to be used for their intended purpose.
- Children's swim aides and flotation devices are permitted under the direct supervision of an accompanying adult in the water and with permission of the lifeguard. Only Coast Guard Approved personal flotation devices permitted in the pool.
- No swimming under the bridge/bulkhead.
- Radios, video-recording devices, cameras and other similar devices are not allowed in the pool area without prior approval from Campus Recreation administration.
- Any person having a skin disease, sore or inflamed eyes, nasal or ear discharges, open wounds, cast, or any communicable disease are not permitted to use the pool.
- Spitting, spouting of water, blowing the nose, or otherwise introducing contaminants into the facility water is not permitted. Such occurrences may result in the pool being closed at the discretion of the lifeguard.
GENERAL RULES
- Swimming is only permitted when there is a certified Bates lifeguard on duty
- Maximum pool capacity is 50 swimmers. Maximum swimmers per lifeguard is 25.
- Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
- Locker Rooms are closed except for use of the restrooms. Users are encouraged to wear exercise attire to the facility since changing spaces will be closed. Showers are closed.
- Proper swimming attire is to be worn at all times. Children under three years of age must wear plastic pants or swim diapers.
- Food and gum are not permitted in the pool area. Drinks must be in a non-glass, non-spillable bottle
- All band aids and/or athletic tape must be removed before entering the pool.
- Any use of or modification of equipment other than its intended purpose is not permitted.
- Participants acting in a way that can create an unsafe environment for themselves or others may be asked to discontinue the unsafe behavior or activity by an Athletics employee.
- Report all emergencies, maintenance issues, vandalism, or misuse of facilities to an Athletics employee or by calling 207-786-6366.
- Failure to follow or adhere to the above guidelines and procedures and/or the direction of Athletics employees may result in loss of usage privileges.
PROGRAMS OFFERED
Swim Lessons
The Bates swimming and diving team offers a two 2-week lesson program each school year. One in early September, and the other in early April. There are eight thirty minute one on one lessons offered each session, M-TH for two weeks. Please email head coach

Lessons are play based, one-on-one, and individualized for beginning, intermediate, and competitive swimmers 3 and older. Whether you want your child to be safer in the water, or work on the latest technique and drills, The Bates Swimming Lesson Program can make a difference.
- 1 Child - $96 for 8 lessons ($12 per lesson)
- 2 Children - $176 ($11 per lesson)
- 3 Children - $240 ($10 per lesson)
- 4 Children - $288 ($9 per lesson)
Registration will be first come first serve - and this form will time-stamp all registrations so that I can sort everything correctly. You will be contacted later in the day in regards to whether you got in or not.
