Senior Jeff Spellman (Boston, Mass.) averaged 17.7 points per game in a 3-0 week for the Bobcats, including his fourth career double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds) in a 72-58 non-conference win at Bowdoin.
Spellman tallied 18 points on 8-15 shooting in an 82-74 win at Johnson & Wales on Monday. He followed that up with his double-double at Bowdoin on Thursday and wrapped up the week with 14 points, three rebounds, a season-high five assists and a steal in Bates' 84-69 win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday.
Through six games, Spellman is averaging 17.3 points per contest, fifth in the NESCAC. Bates (5-1) is off to its best start since the 2014-15 campaign, the last time the Bobcats made the NCAA tournament.
