Junior Vanessa Paolella is headed to the NCAA Championships along with five other Bates women after her personal record of 5:02.66 in the mile at the Tufts Last Chance Meet. (Brewster Burns for Bates College)
Paolella finished the mile in 5:02.66 at the Tufts Last Chance Meet, moving her into sixth place on Bates' all-time top 10 list in the event. Paolella's time -- her personal best by six seconds - was good for a 13th seed entering this week's NCAA Championships.
All thanks to performances at yesterday's Tufts Final National Qualifying Meet, the Bates women's track and field team will have a team record-matching six student-athletes competing in a combined four events at this week's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, as official entries were announced Sunday night by the NCAA. The meet takes place March 13-14 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The women's team's six athletes will be joined by five members of the Bates men's track and field team also headed to NCAAs.
