WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates men's track and field team rolled to their fifth straight outdoor state title, taking first place out of 10 schools at the 124th annual Maine State Collegiate Championship, held Friday and Saturday at Colby College.
The Bobcats scored 181 points as a team, easily out-scoring runner-up Bowdoin (134), the University of Southern Maine (131), and host Colby (94), among others. Bates captured the Frank E. Lowe Trophy for the 19th time in their last 22 tries, continuing their dominance of the outdoor state meet that dates back more than two decades. Before 2002, the Bobcats had won only eight outdoor state titles. With a few exceptions, the Maine State Collegiate Championship has been held yearly since 1895.
