LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's indoor track and field team finished second out of eight teams and first among Division III schools at the Bates Invitational & Multi, held Friday and Saturday at Merrill Gymnasium. 

Bates tallied 175 points, finishing behind only the University of New Hampshire, which finished with 224 points. The Bobcats were well-ahead of third-place Southern Maine, as the Huskies tallied 117.5 points. 

Meet Highlights

• Senior captain Kevin O'Connor (Milford, Mass.) won the 60-meter dash in 7.03 seconds.
• Senior captain Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.) won the 400-meter dash in 49.06 seconds and sophomore Ryan Harding (Wellesley, Mass.) took third in 51.77 seconds.
• First-year Max Hoffman (Wellesley, Mass.) impressed in his first collegiate track meet, winning the 3,000 meters in 8:36.95. The Bobcats took the top seven spots in the event.
• Sophomores Seneca Moore (Lansing, Mich.) and Eli Terrell (Barrington, R.I.) finished 1-2 in the 60-meter hurdles, with Moore winning in 8.31 seconds and Terrell recording a personal record time of 8.87 seconds.
• The Bobcats showed off their depth in the mile, taking second through fifth in the event, led by junior Ross Tejeda (Milton, Mass.), who finished runner-up to a runner from New Hampshire with a time of 4:18.60.
• First-year Nick Nicolazzo IV (Wellesley, Mass.) finished runner-up in the triple jump with a top distance of 44-1.5 (13.45m) and third in the long jump, with a top mark of 20-9.25 (6.33m).
• Sophomore Evan Berthiaume (East Greenwich, R.I.) took second in the 200-meter dash in 23.19 seconds. 
• Junior Reuven Frye (Montclair, N.J.) finished third in the 600 meters in 1:29.92.
• Senior Cam Stathos (Wellesley, Mass.) took third in the 1,000 meters in 2:36.62.
• Junior Carson Moellering (Natick, Mass.) moved up to eighth on the Bates all-time performance list in the heptathlon with a personal record point total of 3,918, good for fourth in the event at the meet. He set personal records in the 60-meter dash (7.72 seconds), the long jump (19-2.75), and the 60-meter hurdles (9.64 seconds).
• Senior Solomon Sakakeeny-Smith (Boston) set a personal record in the weight throw for the second straight week, finishing sixth in the event with a top effort of 53-8.25 (16.36).

The Bobcats are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 26 when they travel to Boston to compete in Middlebury's Small College Invitational, to be held at the TRACK at new balance.
