BOSTON -- Bates men's track and field senior captain
Truman Williams broke a pair of school records on Saturday, highlighting the first meets of the indoor track and field season for the Bobcats.
Williams (Montclair, N.J.) and most of the team competed at the New Balance Early Bird Invite, held at the TRACK at new balance. He took second place out of 76 runners in the 200-meter dash, winning his section with a school-record time of 22.01 seconds. Williams breaks the previous Bates indoor record of 22.19 seconds, set by
Colby Stakun-Pickering '23 in 2023.
The talented sprinter entered the meet already holding the Bates record in the indoor 400-meter dash at 49.05 seconds, which he set last February. Williams proceeded to break that mark on Saturday, winning his section and taking second place overall out of 24 runners with a time of 48.53 seconds.Â
The Bobcats also impressed in a number of other events at the non-scoring meet.
- Senior Andrew Mottur (Rumford, R.I.) won the mile in 4:18.69 and sophomore Nathaniel Aronson (West Hartford, Conn.) placed second out of 58 runners in 4:19.22.
- First-year Nick Nicolazzo IV (Wellesley, Mass.) placed seventh in the long jump with a top effort of 21-8.25 (6.61m), good for a tie for eighth on the Bates all-time performance list.
- Sophomore Matt Charpentier (Cape Neddick, Maine) took third in the shot put with a top effort of 46-6 (14.17m).
- Senior captain Kevin O'Connor (Milford, Mass.) qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash and took sixth place in 7.04 seconds. Sophomore Evan Berthiaume (East Greenwich, R.I.) clocked in at 7.22 seconds, good for a tie for 27th out of 87 runners on Saturday and a three-way tie for 10th on the Bates all-time performance list in the event.Â
- Sophomore Miles Logan (Brunswick, Maine) placed eighth out of 52 runners in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:40.22.
Bates men's track and field sent a pair of runners to the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University on Saturday.
- Junior Ross Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) turned in a strong performance in the mile, racing to the finish in 4:10.04, good for 32nd out of 57 runners and sixth on the Bates all-time performance list. Sophomore Callahan Porter (Chester, N.J.) crossed the finish line in 4:26.86.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they return to the TRACK at new balance for the Suffolk Ice Breaker.
