LEWISTON, Maine -- No. 19 Bates College, playing its final home match of the 2023-24 campaign, suffered a 5-4 loss to No. 18 Bowdoin Wednesday evening in women's squash action.
Prior to the contest, the Bobcats honored lone senior
Andy Martagon during a pregame Senior Night celebration. The Puebla, Mexico native promptly went out and earned a decisive 3-0 victory, defeating Bowdoin's Amanda Cowhey in the No. 1 position (11-7, 11-2, 11-5).
In fact, Bates' top-4 positions each posted triumphs on the evening.
Navya Kupta, playing at No. 2, dropped Emma Kate Watts-Roy by a 3-1 score (11-1, 12-14, 13-11, 11-7) while teammates
Aasya Patel (11-9, 11-8, 11-7) and
Sumairaa Suleman (11-8, 11-8, 11-8) each earned shutout wins of 3-0 at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Bates (5-8) wraps up the regular season on the road with a match scheduled vs. No. 32 Mount Holyoke (hosted by MIT) this Friday at 6:00 p.m, followed by a Saturday matinee (3:00 p.m.) at No. 11 Tufts.
