LEWISTON, Maine -- The #18 Bobcats, playing the first of two matches on the day, welcomed #19 Bowdoin College to the Bates Squash Center Saturday morning for a showdown between the intrastate rivals.
The Polar Bears (1-0) doubled up the Bobcats, 6-3, to earn a victory in their first outing of the season. The garnet-and-white, after a win in their first contest of the year (Nov. 18 at #25 Franklin and Marshall), have now lost two straight (1-2).
The Bobcats enjoyed their best success at the top of the lineup as Bates tallied wins in positions No. 1 through No. 3.
In the No. 1 slot,
Andy Martagon ousted Bowdoin's Emma Kate Watts-Roy, 3-0, with scores of 11-8, 11-5, 11-1. At No. 2,
Navya Gupta collected a swift 3-0 triumph of her own (11-9, 11-5, 11-9) over Amanda Cowhey to earn the first-year her first collegiate win, while
Aasya Patel proved victorious at No. 3 (11-4, 11-3, 4-11, 11-6) vs. Ursula Sze.
Bates was to play #2 Trinity College later today at 6:00 p.m., but that contest has been postponed (Make-up TBD). The Bobcats will next see action on Tuesday, Jan. 9 vs. William Smith College at 11:00 a.m.
