PHILADELPHIA -- No. 18 Bates College, playing its second match in as many days to open the 2023-24 season, took on No. 15 Georgetown University Sunday in a women's squash contest hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The Hoyas defeated the Bobcats, 9-0.
Georgetown (2-2) swept eight matches against the Bobcats.
Andy Martagon pushed her opponent to five games in the No. 1 position vs. Jesse Brownell. Martagon grabbed the first game by a score of 11-8 before Brownell swiped the next two, 11-9 and 12-10. The Bates senior staved off defeat with an 11-9 victory in game four, but the Hoya graduate student finally sealed the victory with an 11-7 win in game five.
The garnet and white (1-1) returns to the Bates Squash Center on Saturday, Dec. 2 (6 p.m.) to host No. 2 Trinity College in what will be the Bobcats' home opener.
