LANCASTER, Pa. -- #18 Bates College opened the 2023-24 season on a high note Saturday as the Bobcats edged #25 Franklin & Marshall College, 5-4, in women's squash action.

Andy Martagon set the tone in the No. 1 position as the senior captain outlasted Gurlin Kaur in five games (11-9, 3-11, 11-1, 8-11, 11-7) for the 3-2 victory. Aasya Patel followed with a win at No. 3, defeating Catherine Costin, 3-1 (11-9, 3-11, 11-1, 8-11, 11-7).

Tia Billimoria, making her collegiate debut with the Bobcats, kicked off her career on a high note as the first-year recorded a 3-1 win at No. 5 vs. Mia Todd. Angelina Amastal (No. 8) and Hollis Hale (No. 9), also sporting the garnet and white for the first time, each coasted to 3-0 triumphs to seal the team triumph.

The Bobcats will next take on #15 Georgetown University (0-2) Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. in a match hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
