CRAFTSBURY, Vt. -- Sophomores
Hannah Grohman and
Oliver Wilson paced the Bates Nordic skiing team in their respective 10K freestyle races Saturday at the UVM Carnival, held at Craftsbury Outdoor Center.
Grohman (Biddeford, Maine) led the way for the Bobcats in the women's race, crossing the finish line in 33:31.0, good for 48th place out of 99 collegiate skiers and 10 carnival points. Sophomore
Margaret Voisin (Montpelier, Vt.) and senior captain
Sydney Wilmot (Jackson, Wyo.) rounded out the scoring for Bates in 82nd and 83rd place respectively. Voisin crossed the finish line in 35:58.9, good for five carnival points and Wilmot recorded a mark of 36:08.3, good for four carnival points.
Sophomore
Greta Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn.) was not one of the six Bobcats designated as potential point-scorers for Bates, but she turned in the second-best performance of the day for the women's team with a time of 34:42.4, good for 72nd place.
On the men's side, Wilson (Dublin, N.H.) took 48th place out of 98 competitors with his time of 28:35.1, good for 12 carnival points. First-year
Taylor Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) placed 52nd in 28:44.4, earning 11 carnival points, and sophomore
Duncan Whitbeck (Salt Lake City, Utah) rounded out the scoring in 85th place with a time of 30:05.8. He picked up four carnival points.
Combined, the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams scored 282 points at the UVM Carnival, good for 10th place out of 14 EISA schools.
The Nordic skiing teams head to Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vt. for the Williams Carnival next Friday and Saturday.
