WOODFORD, Vt. -- The Bates Nordic skiing team opened up the Williams Carnival by competing in the 10K freestyle race, held Friday at Prospect Mountain.
Sophomore
Hannah Grohman (Biddeford, Maine) led the way for the Bobcats, placing 47th out of 95 competitors in the women's race in 31:51, earning 15 carnival points. Sophomore
Greta Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn.) raced to the finish in 32:26, good for 61st place and seven carnival points. Sophomore
Elsa Sanborn (Burlington, Vt.) rounded out the scoring in 76th place, crossing the finish line in 33:06.0 and earning four carnival points.
On the men's side, sophomore
Oliver Wilson (Dublin, N.H.) paced Bates, taking 70th place out of 90 competitors with a time of 28:22.6, earning six carnival points. Sophomore
Cabot Godoy (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) and first-year
Forrest Slingerland (Glens Falls, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring in 74th and 78th place, respectively. Godoy crossed the finish line in 28:51.5 and Slingerland recorded a time of 29:00.4.
Combined, the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams scored 108 carnival points. That puts the Bobcats in 12th place out of 14 EISA schools entering Saturday's action at the Williams Carnival. The Nordic skiing team competes in the 3x5K Classic relay races starting at 10 a.m.
