RIPTON, Vt. -- Bates men's Nordic skiing sophomore
Oliver Wilson turned in an outstanding performance on Friday in the 7.5K classical technique race, placing 21st in a field of 64 athletes to pace the Bobcats at the Middlebury Carnival.
Wilson (Dublin, N.H.) raced to the finish at Rikert Outdoor Center in 22:32.4, earning 23 carnival points and 10 NCAA points for his efforts. First-year
Forrest Slingerland (Glens Falls, N.Y.) also impressed, taking 37th place and earning 11 carnival points with his time of 23:12.2. Sophomore
Sage Grossi (Montpelier, Vt.) rounded out the scoring in 56th place, crossing the finish line in 24:16.1 and picking up seven carnival points.
On the women's side, sophomore
Hannah Grohman (Biddeford, Maine) once again paced the Bobcats, taking 41st place out of 64 skiers in 27:24.4 and earning 15 carnival points. Sophomore
Elsa Sanborn (Burlington, Vt.) finished 49th in 27:49.1 and picked up 10 carnival points. Sophomore
Margaret Voisin (Montpelier, Vt.) rounded out the scoring in 53rd place with her time of 28:23.4, enough for eight carnival points.
Combined, the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams scored 134.5 carnival points on Friday, good for 11th place out of 14 EISA schools. The Nordic team is back in action Saturday at 10 a.m. when they compete in the 20K freestyle to wrap up the Middlebury Carnival.
