STOWE, Vt. -- Junior Bates alpine skier
Juliette Hoder turned in the performance of her career to date in the women's giant slalom, taking eighth place Thursday at the UVM Carnival to pace the Bobcats.
Hoder (Stowe, Vt.) returned to her hometown in style, racing down the hill at Stowe Mountain Resort in a two-run combined time of 2:10.18. Her performance was good for eighth out of 97 collegiate skiers, earning the Bobcats 33 carnival points. Hoder picked up 32 NCAA points in a big step towards potentially qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the second time in her Bates career.
The talented junior wasn't the only one shining for the women's team on Thursday, as the Bobcats took fifth place with three top-30 performances. First-year
Regan Clute (Tahoe City, Calif.) placed 24th with a two-run combined time of 2:12.90, earning 21 carnival points and seven NCAA points. Cute's classmate
Sydney Kuder (Pittsburgh, Pa.) rounded out the scoring in a tie for 26th place, turning in a mark of 2:13.85. Kuder tallied 19 carnival points and five carnival points.
On the men's side, first-year
Alex Roguet (Bartlett, N.H.) led the way for Bates, taking 37th place out of 95 collegiate skiers with a two-run combined time of 2:08.54. He picked up 11 carnival points. Meanwhile, first-year
William Hostetter (Stowe, Vt.) placed 42nd in 2:09.44, earning nine carnival points.
Combined, the Bobcats tallied 93 carnival points. Bates placed ninth in the field, ahead of St. Lawrence, Harvard, and Williams.
The Bates alpine skiing team is back in action on Friday at 9 a.m. when they compete in the slalom.
