HANCOCK, Mass. -- Sophomore captain
Helena Jankovic took 16th place out of 81 collegiate skiers in a very impressive day for the Bates alpine skiing team in the slalom Saturday at the Williams Carnival.
Jankovic (Pittsfield, Mass.) was one of five Bobcats to finish in the top 30 in Saturday's slalom races. She raced down Jiminy Peak Mountain in a two-run combined time of 1:40.09, earning 27 carnival points and 15 NCAA points. Junior
Juliette Hoder (Stowe, Vt.) was not far behind, taking 17th place with a two-run combined time of 1:40.19 and earning 26 carnival points to go along with 14 NCAA points. Senior
Lindsey Aten (Park City, Utah) finished 24th with a two-run combined time of 1:41.25, earning 19 carnival points and seven NCAA points.
The Bates women's team placed fifth in the slalom with 72 carnival points, just two points behind fourth-place Colby.
While only three athletes can score carnival points, Bates first-year
Regan Clute (Tahoe City, Calif.) also finished in the top 30 for the women's team, taking 26th in 1:41.47 and earning five NCAA points.
On the men's side, sophomore
Evan Gramas (Stowe, Vt.) led the way, taking 24th out of 96 collegiate skiers with his two-run combined time of 1:38.09. He earned 19 carnival points and seven NCAA points. First-year
Caleb Stefanakos (Freeport, Maine) and sophomore
Zac Bower (Truckee, Calif.) also contributed to the scoring, taking 39th and 41st place, respectively.
Combined, the Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams scored 274 carnival points, good for 11th out of 14 EISA schools.
Bates is back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Middlebury Carnival.
