Sydney Kuder and junior
Juliette Hoder both placed in the top 30 of the women's race, pacing the Bates alpine skiing team Friday in the giant slalom at the Williams Carnival.
Kuder (Pittsburgh, Pa.) raced down Jiminy Peak Mountain in a two-run combined time of 1:36.80, good for 21st out of 81 collegiate skiers, She earned 22 carnival points and 10 NCAA points. Meanwhile, Hoder (Stowe, Vt.) wasn't far behind, placing 24th with a two-run combined time of 1:37.29 and earning 20 carnival points to go along with seven NCAA points. Sophomore
Helena Jankovic (Pittsfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring in 44th place with her two-run combined time of 1:40.60, good for eight Carnival points.
On the men's side, first-year
Caleb Stefanakos (Freeport, Maine) led the way, taking 37th out of 97 collegiate skiers with his two-run combined time of 1:35.24 and earning nine carnival points. Sophomore
Zac Bower (Truckee, Calif.) wasn't far behind, placing 38th in 1:35.66, good for eight carnival points.
Combined, the Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams scored 108 carnival points. That puts the Bobcats in 12th place out of 14 EISA schools entering Saturday's action at the Williams Carnival. The alpine skiing team competes in the slalom at 9 a.m.
