Women's track and field takes ninth at NESCAC Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- First-year Campbell Johnson earned All-NESCAC honors for a top-three finish in the triple jump and the Bates women's outdoor track and field team placed ninth at the NESCAC Championships, held Saturday at Wesleyan University. 

The Bobcats tallied 28 points as a team, six back of eighth-place Hamilton and well ahead of Trinity and host Wesleyan.

Meet Highlights
  • Johnson (Naples, Maine) placed third in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 36-9.5 (11.21m), good for third on the Bates all-time performance list. She also set a personal record in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-2.5 (1.59m), good for seventh place at the meet and a tie for sixth on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • Senior Phoebe Pohl (Weston, Mass.) finished fifth in the 10,000 meters in a personal-record time of 37:08.52, good for sixth on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • Senior Isabelle Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) took eighth in the 5,000 meters in a personal-record time of 17:21.04, good for fourth on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • Junior Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.89 seconds.
  • The Bates 4x100 relay team of sophomore Emily Cain (Burien, Wash.), first-year Graca Bila (Westbrook, Maine), Scharn, and first-year Madison Alves (Stoneham, Mass.) raced to the finish in 49.12 seconds, landing them at seventh on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • The Bates 4x400 relay team of sophomore Lia Traficonte (Cumberland, Maine), Alves, junior Gabby Monaco (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and first-year Dara Salka (Somers, Conn.) won their section and placed seventh overall in 4:09.09.
  • Sophomore Alannah Ardrey (New York City) achieved a personal record in the long jump, finishing in ninth place with a top effort of 17-6 (5.33m). Her leap is good for fifth on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • Bila scored points for Bates with a seventh-place showing in the triple jump, checking in with a top effort of 35-10.5 (10.93m).
  • First-year Marie-Ève Maillet (Saint-Antoine, New Brunswick) took sixth in the shot put with a personal-record heave of 38-11.75 (11.88m).
  • Junior captain Carli Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) was sixth in the hammer throw with a top effort of 147-4 (44.90m).
Bates is back in action next weekend at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships, being held Friday and Saturday in New London, Conn.
