BRUNSWICK, Maine and MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bates men's indoor track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend on Saturday with a number of athletes competing at Bowdoin's Lynn Ruddy Invitational and others at Tufts University's Stampede Open.
Lynn Ruddy Invitational Highlights
The Bobcats scored 108 points to place third out of eight teams at the Lynn Ruddy Invitational.
- Sophomore Daniel Cassata (Annandale, Va.) won the 600 meters in a personal-record time of 1:25.85.
- First-year JJ Rocha (Cumberland, R.I.) won the 1,000 meters in 2:38.80 as the Bobcats took the top three spots in the race.
- Sophomore Matt Charpentier (Cape Neddick, Maine) won the shot put with a top effort of 50-9.25 (15.47m).
- First-year Ryan Glaser (Rockport, Maine) won the 35-pound weight throw with a personal-record toss of 52-2 (15.90m).
- Sophomore Alexander Sandulli (Salt Lake City, Utah) placed third in the mile with a personal-record time of 4:43.79.
- Sophomore Liam Thomson (Arlington, Va.) finished sixth in the 3,000 meters in a personal-record time of 9:07.95.
- Sophomore Neil Grover (Hartford, Conn.) took seventh in the pole vault with a personal-record clearance of 10-8 (3.25m).
- First-year Fraol Nigusse (Bronx, N.Y.) took second in the triple jump with a leap of 40-11 (12.47m) and fifth in the 600 meters in 1:28.00.
Tufts Stampede Open Highlights
- Senior Nick Brown (Hopkinton, Mass.) took third in his section and ninth overall out of 27 runners in the 5,000 meters in 15:30.18. Meanwhile, senior Freddie Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) ran his first collegiate 5K and placed 13th in 15:42.38.
- First-year Nate Roberts (Summit, N.J.), senior captain Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.), senior Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.), and junior Ross Tejeda (Milton, Mass.) ran the Distance Medley Relay in 10:14.86 on the flat track, the 14th fastest DMR in NCAA Division III so far this season.
The Bobcats will host a tune-up meet for New England Division III's next Saturday at Merrill Gymnasium
