HANCOCK, Vt. -- Senior captains
Kyle Kagan and
Sequoia Anstine paced the Bates alpine skiing teams in the giant slalom Saturday at the Middlebury Carnival, as the Bobcats wrapped up the penultimate carnival of the season.
Kagan (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) raced down the Middlebury Snow Bowl in a two-run combined time of 2:02.08, good for 32nd place out of 85 collegiate skiers, earning the Bobcats 14 carnival points. He was joined in the scoring column on the men's team by first-year
Evan Gramas (Morrisville, Vt.), who notched a mark of 2:03.57, enough for 46th place and seven carnival points. Fellow rookie
Stanley Andrie (Vail, Colo.) rounded out the scoring in 55th place with his time of 2:04.97, picking up five carnival points for the Bobcats.
On the women's side, Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) took 38th place out of 79 collegiate skiers with a two-run combined time of 2:08.93, earning 11 carnival points. Sophomore
Juliette Hoder (Stowe, Vt.) was just behind her in 44th place with a mark of 2:09.78, picking up nine carnival points for Bates. Meanwhile, rookie
Helena Jankovic (Pittsfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring in 48th place with her two-run combined time of 2:10.72, enough for seven carnival points.
Combined, the Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams scored 214 carnival points over the course of two days, good for 12th place out of the 14 EISA schools competing at Middlebury.
The Bobcats are back in action this Friday when the alpine skiing teams compete in the giant slalom at the New Hampshire Carnival, which doubles this year as the NCAA East Regional Championships.
