LANCASTER, Pa.-- No. 24 Bates College women's squash opened the 2025-26 campaign in dynamic fashion as the Bobcats doubled up No. 27 Franklin & Marshall on the road Saturday, 6-3.
Senior captain,
Aasya Patel, who missed all of last season while studying abroad, returned to the lineup with a solid 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 win over Franklin & Marshall's Ashanti Amastal in the No. 1 position. Sophomore captain,
Scarlett Hine, followed suit with an 11-8, 11-3, 11-9 victory at No. 3 vs. Mia Todd.
Angelina Amastal (Jr.) dominated at No. 5 with a swift 11-7, 11-2, 11-1 dismissal of the Diplomats' Lavanya Mio Seshasayee while
Neha Taneja (So.) blanked Elisabeth Stout by scores of 11-3, 11-7, 11-1 at No. 6.
After dropping the opening game to Rory Dasher at No. 2, junior captain
Tia Billimoria stormed back for a 5-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 comeback win.
Sav Thomson (So.) also needed four games (11-7, 8-11, 11-2, 11-9) to lock down a win vs. Joey Ho at No. 4.
Franklin & Marshall (2-3) earned unopposed wins at positions 7, 8, and 9 as the Bobcats played the match shorthanded.
Bates (1-0) returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 6 as the garnet and white opens its home schedule with matches vs. Brown (noon) and No. 5 Trinity (6:00 p.m.).
