MEDFORD, Mass. --
Tia Billimoria (So.) and
Daina Velez (Sr.) earned individual victories Friday as Bates College visited No. 11 Tufts in women's squash competition. The Bobcats, ranked No. 18 in the College Squash Association (CSA) team rankings, ultimately suffered a 7-2 defeat vs. the 6-6 Jumbos.
Billimoria, playing at the No. 5 position, outlasted Sonya Bajaj in a five-game thriller (11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-7) while Velez also needed five games (11-8, 2-11, 3-11, 11-8, 11-7) to send off Bridget Schutt at No. 9.
Bates drops to 4-6 with the setback. The Bobcats now prepare to compete in the NESCAC Championships, which will take place Feb. 8-9 in Hartford, Conn. (hosted by Trinity).
