MEDFORD, Mass. -- Bates men's indoor track and field senior captain
Liam Byrne earned a spot on the Bates top 10 all-time performance list in the shot put thanks to his personal record throw at Saturday's National Qualifying Meet at Tufts.
Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) tossed the shot put 51-5.5 (15.68m) on his fourth attempt, surpassing
Rudy Pandora '14 for the 10th spot on the Bates indoor top 10 list.Â
Fellow senior captain
Ryan Smith (Westport, Conn.) also landed on a Bates top 10 list, racing to the finish in the 3,000 meters in 8:32.71, 10th fastest in Bates history.Â
Meanwhile, the 60-meter dash Bates top 10 list continued to shift, with sophomore
Kevin O'Connor (Milford, Mass.) recording a time of 7.01 seconds, good for second to teammate senior
Derek Shen (Bellevue, Wash.) in program history. Shen also ran well on Saturday, finishing with a time of 6.95 seconds, just 0.03 seconds off his school record.Â
Senior
Eli Boesch Dining (Concord, N.H.) recorded a flat track personal record in the 5K in 14:40.59 and junior
Ned Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) placed fifth in the mile in a season-best 4:15.45.
Selections for the NCAA Indoor Championships will be announced on Monday. The outdoor season begins Saturday, April 1 with the Bates College Quad Meet at Russell Street Track & Field.
