BOSTON -- The Bates men's track and field team wrapped up the New England Indoor Championships on Saturday with a number of Bobcats moving up the program's all-time performance lists, as Bates tied rival Colby for eighth place out of 25 scoring teams.
The Bobcats and Mules both finished with 33 points over the course of two days, just three points out of a tie for sixth.Â
Saturday highlights:
- Senior captain Liam Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed highest for Bates on Saturday, taking fourth in the shot put with a personal record throw of 50-8 (15.44m) coming on his final attempt. Junior Jacob Goff (Scarborough, Maine) also placed in the shot put, taking seventh with a top effort of 48-2.75 (14.70m).
- Junior Ned Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) took sixth in the 3,000 meters with a personal record time of 8:25.53. Farrington ranks third all-time at Bates in the 3K.
- The 4x400 relay team of senior captain Colby Stakun-Pickering (Wellesley, Mass.), senior Robby Griffin (Norwell, Mass.), first-year Evan Migdole (Westbrook, Conn.), and senior Peter Ackley (New Albany, Ohio) finished in eighth place with a time of 3:25.14.
- Senior Derek Shen (Bellevue, Wash.) finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.05 seconds.
- Stakun-Pickering broke his own program record in the 200-meters with his time of 22.19 seconds, good for 11th place.
- Griffin broke the 50-second barrier in the 400 meters, racing to the finish in 49.92 seconds, taking 10th place and landing at fifth on the Bates all-time performance list in the event.
- First-year Jackson Monz (North Logan, Utah) scored in the 600 meters for Bates, placing eighth with a personal record time of 1:22.92, the fifth fastest mark in Bates history.
- Sophomore Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.) timed in at 1:54.64 in the 800 meters, good for 11th in New England and ninth in Bates history.Â
Select Bobcats will compete next Saturday at Tufts in the final chance for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
