Department of Athletics holds seventh annual Senior Athlete Recognition Ceremony

LEWISTON, Maine -- John Mieszczanski and Bridget Thompson received the Lindholm Scholar-Athlete Awards on Tuesday, May 24, while 90 classmates received Senior Scholar Awards at the seventh annual Bates College Senior Athlete Recognition Ceremony, held in-person for the first time since 2019.

Ninety-two student-athletes from the Class of 2022 received the Senior Scholar Award at the ceremony, headed by Mieszczanski (men's cross country and track & field), and Thompson (field hockey), recipients of the 46th Milton L. Lindholm Scholar-Athlete awards as the varsity letter-winning athletes from a men's team and a women's team with the highest cumulative grade point averages. Both winners graduate from Bates with perfect 4.0 GPAs. Thompson was also chosen as this year's senior speaker and delivered an in-person address on the Library Quad to her peers after two years of virtual ceremonies.

The Bates Senior Scholar Award makes clear the Bates Department of Athletics' commitment to the scholar-athlete ideal. The award honors graduating Bates seniors who have participated in varsity sports for four years and have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.
