BOULDER, Colo. -- Nine members of the Bates alpine ski teams were honored by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association on Wednesday as members of the 2022 National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team.

Bates' group is led by six repeat honorees in senior captain Sarah Gillis (Branford, Conn.), senior Daphne James (Sausalito, Calif.), junior Crawford Jones (Killington, Vt.), sophomore Avery Leonard (Verona, Wis.) junior Grace Schierwagen (North Hampton, Pa.), and senior captain Arie van Vuuren (Boulder, Colo.).

To make the team, skiers must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, matching the highest GPA requirement of any coaches association academic team nationally, and skiers must participate at one of the three regional championships. 

Seven members of the Bates Nordic ski team also received USCSCA All-Academic recognition.
