CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore first team All-NESCAC selection
Andrea Martagon won at the No. 1 position and the No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team received some strong performances further down the lineup as well in a 5-4 loss to No. 14 Amherst Saturday in the Kurtz Cup consolation semifinals at CSA Nationals.
Martagon (Puebla, Mexico) played the longest match of the day, clocking in at 48 minutes. She ultimately rallied from two games down and prevailed 3-2 (9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-8) over Amherst's Callie Delalio.
Fellow sophomore
Marina McGuire (Cambridge, Mass.) also earned a hard-fought five-game victory, dominating the fifth game 11-1 on her way to the 3-2 (11-8, 1-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-1) win over Isabelle Tilney-Sandberg at the No. 7 position.
Senior
Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) earned a 3-1 (11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10) at the No. 5 position over Keeley Osborn and junior
Victoria Haghighi (Bronx, N.Y.) earned the only sweep of the day for Bates, with a 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 13-11) win over Frances Burton at the No. 8 position.
The Bobcats (6-11) wrap up the Kurtz Cup against rival Bowdoin Sunday at 12:30pm.
