CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team gave it all they had but couldn't handle the 10th ranked Big Green of Dartmouth, falling 9-0 Friday in the Kurtz Cup quarterfinals at the College Squash Association team championships.
The Bobcats (6-10) battled Dartmouth (8-8) in a number of matches. First Team All-NESCAC selection sophomore
Andrea Martagon (Puebla, Mexico) gave the Big Green's Emma Supattapone all she could handle at the No. 1 position before falling 3-0 (13-11, 11-9, 11-8).
At No. 3, junior
Ella Lungstrum (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made Ellie Burke go the extra mile in the first game and battled her down to the wire in the second game, eventually falling 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-3). Meanwhile at No. 4, first-year
Grace Flaherty (Malvern, Pa.) forced Dartmouth's Emily Schuster to win two games beyond 11 points in a 3-0 (12-10, 12-10, 11-6) loss for the rookie.
The Bates women's squash team has a consolation semifinals showdown with No. 14 Amherst Saturday at 1pm.
