CLINTON, N.Y. -- The No. 17 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team got a pair of wins in the top three spots in the lineup but fell 7-2 to No. 18 Bowdoin in the fifth-place match Sunday at the NESCAC Championships.
With the loss, the Bobcats (6-9) place sixth at NESCACs out of 11 teams. Bowdoin (11-7) finishes fifth in the conference.Â
Sophomore
Andrea Martagon (Puebla, Mexico) rallied from down a game to defeat Bowdoin's Amanda Cowhey 3-1 (8-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4) at the No. 1 position. First-year
Grace Flaherty (Malvern, Pa.) also rallied from down a game, winning 3-1 (3-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-7) over Caroline Glaser at the No. 3 position.Â
But the Polar Bears won at the No. 4 through 9 positions and at No. 2 to clinch the win over Bates.
The Bobcats return to action Feb. 25-27 at the CSA Team Championships.
