Aasya Patel closed out the final match of the calendar year on a high note as the duo earned victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively, for Bates College Women's Squash in Wednesday's contest at Bowdoin College.
The Bobcats, ranked No. 19 in the College Squash Association (CSA) team rankings, suffered a 7-2 defeat vs. the No. 16 Polar Bears.
Martagon (Puebla, Mexico) continues to roll atop the Bates lineup as the junior secured a fourth-straight victory, defeating Bowdoin's Emma Kate Watts-Roy in four games (5-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-4). Patel (Madhya Pradesh, India) also enjoyed a solid showing for the garnet and white, closing out Darcy Weber by scores of 11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5.
Bates dips to 1-5 with the setback while Bowdoin, winner of five-straight outings, improves to 5-1 on the season.
The Bobcats next see action on Friday, Jan. 6 (4:00 p.m.) when they welcome No. 11 Stanford University to the Bates Squash Center.
