Andy Martagon secured her third-consecutive win in the No. 1 position for Bates College women's squash as the junior nailed down a 3-2 victory for the garnet and white in Sunday's third home match in as many days, this time vs. No. 21 Franklin and Marshall College.
The No. 19 Bobcats found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-3 score vs. the visiting Diplomats, slipping to 1-4 on the year with the setback. Franklin and Marshall moves to 4-3 after the road win.
Martagon (Puebla, Mexico) after falling behind 2-0 to the Diplomats' Audrey Berling, rallied to win the next three games by scores of 11-3, 11-9, and 12-10 to complete the comeback triumph.
Grace Flaherty (Malvern, Pa.) also wrapped up a third-straight victory as the sophomore, in the No. 4 position, fired off a 3-1 come-from-behind win (8-11, 11-2, 11-7, 11-1) vs. Catherine Costin.
The Bobcats' third point of the morning match came courtesy of
Caroline Grady (Sr.-Westwood, Mass.) who proved triumphant in the No. 9 position with her own bounce-back win (4-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7) vs. Sara Ghorashi.
Bates will take to the road for its next outing as the Bobcats visit #16 Bowdoin Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
