LEWISTON, Maine -- Despite receiving victories in the first four slots of its lineup, No. 19 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team fell just short to No. 22 Georgetown University, 5-4, as the Bobcats made their 2022-23 home debut in the Bates Squash Center. The contest marked the first action since Nov. 20 for the garnet and white.
Andy Martagon (Jr.-Puebla, Mexico),
Aasya Patel (Fy.-Madhya Pradesh, India), and
Erika Parker (So.-San Salvador, El Salvador) each recorded 3-0 triumphs in their respective matches.
Martagon, at the No. 1 position, swept past Georgetown's Katie Hennessy with scores of 11-7, 11-1, and 11-9. Patel followed at No. 2 as the first-year Bobcat made quick work of Nina Thomas (11-4, 11-5, 11-2) to earn her first collegiate victory. Parker completed the Top-3 sweep for the home team with her blanking of the Hoyas' Caroline Wilcox (11-2, 11-3, 11-2).
Sophomore
Grace Flaherty (Malvern, Pa.) earned a hard-fought five-game victory, dominating the fourth and fifth frames on her way to the 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-2) win over Sydney Bramen at the No. 4 position.
The Bobcats (0-3) get right back at it Saturday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. home match vs. #29 Connecticut College.
