Swimming and diving sweeps dual meet at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Bates swimming and diving teams swept Middlebury in a dual meet Sunday morning. The No. 11 nationally ranked Bates women's team outscored the host Panthers by a count of 167-118 while the Bates men prevailed 171-108.

Bates Women's Highlights
  • First-year Sophie Cassily (Rye, N.H.), junior Abigail Gibbons (Westtown, N.Y.), sophomore Grace Wenger (Hanover, N.H.) and sophomore Marjorie McLeod (Durham, Maine) won the 200 yard medley relay in 1:47.66.
  • Sophomore Julia Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) won the 1650 yard freestyle in 18:33.97.
  • Senior Maya Reynoso Williams (Somerville, Mass.) won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:57.25 and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:21.50.
  • Cassily won the 100 yard backstroke in 57.79 and the 200 yard backstroke in 2:06.48.
  • Gibbons won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:08.42 and finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:33.61.
  • Wenger won the 200 yard butterfly in 2:10.90.
  • McLeod won the 50 yard freestyle in 24.78.
  • First-year Sophia Carrai (Eugene, Ore.) won the 100 yard freestyle in 55.00.
  • Senior Isabel Mohammadi-Hall (Saratoga, Calif.) won the 100 yard butterfly in 59.85.
  • Sophomore Amy Townend (Chester Heights, Pa.) won the 400 yard IM in 4:41.59.
  • Wenger, Carrai, Reynoso Williams and senior captain Caroline Sweeney (New Canaan, Conn.) recorded the fastest time (3:37.03) in the 400 yard freestyle relay (exhibition). 
Bates Men's Highlights
  • Junior Nathan Berry (Augusta, Maine), junior Nate Sommer (Terre Haute, Ind.), sophomore Will Dewey (Ithaca, N.Y.) and junior John Marcolina (Mystic, Conn.) won the 200 yard medley relay in 1:33.73.
  • Sophomore Mark Gregory (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) won the 1650 yard freestyle in 16:50.57.
  • Berry won the 100 yard backstroke in 50.52 and the 100 yard freestyle in 46.82.
  • Sommer won the 100 yard breaststroke in 58.18.
  • Senior captain Pieter Cory (Dublin, Calif.) won the 50 yard freestyle in 21.34 and placed second in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:44.75 and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:00.33.
  • Senior Calvin Tuttle (Columbia, Md.) won the 200 yard backstroke in 1:57.35.
  • Senior captain Jack Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:10.25 and the 400 yard IM in 4:11.93.
  • Dewey won the 100 yard butterfly in 53.42.
  • Sommer, Cory, Marcolina and Berry recorded the fastest time (3:07.03) in the 400 yard freestyle relay (exhibition).
The Bobcats are back in action this Saturday when they visit Colby for a dual meet that gets underway at 1pm.
