WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Junior
Victoria Haghighi and sophomore
Marina McGuire both won in four games but the No. 16 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team fell 7-2 Saturday evening to No. 13 Williams.
Bates (2-5) lost a pair of 3-2 heartbreakers to the Ephs (2-6) in a match that was much closer than the final score indicates.
McGuire (Cambridge, Mass.) dropped her first game 17-15 to Mira Kamat at the No. 5 position but she bounced back and dominated the rest of the match, winning 3-1 (15-17, 11-5, 11-5, 11-2) for her second collegiate victory. The Bobcats also got another strong performance from Haghighi (Bronx, N.Y.), who prevailed 3-1 (11-6, 10-12, 12-10, 11-7) over Alexandra Pear at the No. 6 position.
Junior captain Erika Parker (San Salvador, El Salvador) won her first two games at the No. 3 position, only to see the Ephs' Yu Quan Ng rally to win in five games (6-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9). Junior Ella Lungstrum (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also lost a tight match, falling 3-2 (8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6) at the No. 4 position to Kathryn Wright.
The Bobcats look to bounce back Sunday when they visit No. 14 Middlebury for a match that gets underway at 3pm.
