WATERVILLE, Maine --Â The Bates swimming and diving teams swept Colby in a dual meet Saturday afternoon. The No. 11 nationally ranked Bates women's team outscored the host Mules by a count of 178-116 while the Bates men prevailed 168-126.
Bates Women's Highlights
- First-year Sophie Cassily (Rye, N.H.), junior Abigail Gibbons (Westtown, N.Y.), sophomore Grace Wenger (Hanover, N.H.) and sophomore Marjorie McLeod (Durham, Maine) won the 200 yard medley relay in 1:49.07.
- Senior Maya Reynoso Williams (Somerville, Mass.) won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:56.66 and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:10.01.
- First-year Sophia Carrai (Eugene, Ore.) won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:00.02 and the 200 yard backstroke in 2:10.52. "To see Sophia swim two new events like this was really impressive," head coach Peter Casares said. "To have her win both events is even better."Â
- Gibbons won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:08.34 and the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:29.32.Â
- Sophomore Natalie Young (Windham, N.H.) won the 200 yard butterfly in 2:11.90.
- Wenger won the 100 yard freestyle in 52.23.Â
- First-year Halé Oal (Huntington Woods, Mich.) won the 100 yard butterfly in 59.59.
- Wenger, Carrai, Cassily, and Reynoso Williams won the 400 yard freestyle relay in 3:34.72.
Bates Men's Highlights
- Senior Dan Waterland (Chadds Ford, Pa.), junior Nate Sommer (Terre Haute, Ind.), senior Andrew Hall (Little Silver, N.J.) and senior captain Pieter Cory (Dublin, Calif.) won the 200 yard medley relay in 1:34.18.
- Waterland won the 100 yard backstroke in 53.25.
- Senior captain Jack Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) won the 100 yard breaststroke in 59.88. "Jack has been on fire this year," Casares said. "He continues to swim his best in each important moment and has never trained better. We are so impressed."Â
- Hall won the 200 yard butterfly in 1:56.89 and the 100 yard butterfly in 52.16.
- Cory won the 50 yard freestyle in 21.21 and the 100 yard freestyle in 46.92.
- First-year Jaewoo Kim (San Ramon, Calif.) won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:10.43 and the 200 yard IM in 1:56.60.
- Cory, senior Chris Draper (Armonk, N.Y.), Hall and Sommer won the 400 yard freestyle relay in 3:09.60.
