LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore
Andrea Martagon turned in a terrific performance at the top of the lineup in the No. 16 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team's 6-3 loss to No. 10 Amherst Thursday night at the Bates College Squash Center.
Martagon (Puebla, Mexico) swept Amherst's Daksha Pathak 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-7) at the No. 1 position, her fourth win in her last seven matches while playing at the top of the lineup.
Two other Bobcats also swept their opponents on Thursday. Junior
Victoria Haghighi (Bronx, N.Y.) survived a tough second game to win 3-0 (11-5, 13-11, 11-6) over Margaret Pearson at the No. 7 position. Fellow junior
Cordelia Dotson (Houston, Texas) won with relative ease, 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-8) at the No. 8 position over Keeley Osborn.
The Mammoths (5-1) swept four matches on the night and won two in four games against Bates (2-8) to emerge with the win over the Bobcats.
Bates is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 22 when the Bobcats take on Connecticut College at 10am and Wesleyan at 4pm in Medford, Mass. on the campus of Tufts University.
