LEWISTON, Maine -- First-year
Grace Flaherty battled her opponent from No. 2 nationally ranked Trinity to four games in a 9-0 loss for No. 15 Bates women's squash Saturday evening at the Bates College Squash Center.
The Bantams (2-0), a perennial national powerhouse, swept eight matches against the Bobcats. But Flaherty (Malvern, Pa.) took the second game from Lujan Palacios by a count of 11-8. Flaherty ended up falling 3-1 (11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5), making Palacios work for every point.
Junior
Victoria Haghighi (Bronx, N.Y.) also made it tough on her opponent, falling 3-0 but losing by just the minimum two points in two of three games: 11-9, 11-6, 14-12.
Bates (2-4) gets some time off after a very tough early season slate. The Bobcats return to action January 8 at Williams with a match set for 5pm.
