NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bates women's squash team dropped its quarterfinal match in the Kurtz Cup, the B Division of the College Squash Association Team Championships, to top-seeded Dartmouth 9-0 today at Yale University.
The Bobcats are the No. 8 seed in the B Division and are ranked No. 16 in the nation. Bates is now 12-5 overall this season. The Bobcats are competing in the Kurtz Cup for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Dartmouth is ranked No. 9 in the nation and improves to 7-6 this year.
The Big Green earned 3-0 wins at Nos. 2,3,5, and at the No. 7 through No. 9 positions. Dartmouth won at No. 1 by default. At No. 4, junior Maeve O'Brien (Essex, Conn.) topped Claire Aube in the first game 11-9, but dropped the next three 11-8, 11-1, 11-4. Sophomore Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) took on Emma Mactaggart at No. 6. Mactaggart won the first two games 11-3 and 11-1. Jones battled back for an 11-9 win in game three, but fell 11-6 in game four.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they take on Williams College, the No. 5 seed, in the consolation semifinals tomorrow, Feb. 22 at 12:30 p.m.
