LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 18 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team made a respectable showing against NESCAC rival and second-ranked Trinity College on Sunday at the Bates Squash Center, falling 7-2 to the 2017-18 national runners-up.
Trinity (3-0) swept the top seven positions on the ladder on the day, dropping only one game in the process. Bates senior captain Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czechia) won the first game of her match at the No. 2 position against Trinity's Min Jie Teh.
But the Bobcats (2-3) won at both the eighth and ninth positions. At No. 8, first-year Natalie Bachman (New Canaan, Conn.) defeated Maggie Lineberger in five games (11-7, 11-6, 9-11, 8-11, 11-7). At the ninth spot, senior Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) downed Campbell Brown in straight games, 11-2, 11-8, 11-1.
The Bates squash programs raised awareness and funds to fight pediatric brain cancer in partnership with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to Cure Kids' Cancer prior to the match.Â
Bates won't play again until Jan. 8, at home against Wesleyan University at 6pm.
