PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 12 Bates College women's squash won six matches in straight sets, beating No. 13 Drexel University, 7-2, at Princeton University's Jadwin Gymnasium on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Kurtz Cup (B Division) of the CSA Team Championships.
The Bobcats (12-6) advance to play No. 9 Columbia University, the top seed in the bracket, in the semifinals tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. while the Dragons (10-9) will face No. 16 Hamilton College in consolation play tomorrow at 2 p.m.
At the top of the ladder, juniors Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia) and Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) – both of whom earned First Team All-NESCAC honors yesterday – won on court Nos. 1 and 2 respectively with Ariffin winning 3-0 and Kelly pulling out a 3-2 victory.
Bates captured a trio of three-game wins on court Nos. 4-6 with senior Ashley Brooks (Roslindale, Mass.), junior Chloe Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.), and senior captain Rakey Drammeh (New York, N.Y.) winning in order.
Sophomore Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and first-year Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for Bates, emerging victorious at the No. 8 and 9 spots respectively.
