Bowdoin beats men's lacrosse team, 9-6

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team never trailed in a 9-6 win over Bates College on Wednesday evening in Brunswick. The Polar Bears (9-4, 6-2 NESCAC) move into second place in the NESCAC standings and have won three straight games since losing an overtime heartbreaker to Middlebury on April 15. The Bobcats (9-3, 6-3), ranked 18th nationally, have lost their last three games, all to NESCAC opponents.

The Polar Bears jumped out to an early lead thanks to goals from Kevin Mullins and Chris Eaton in the first seven minutes. Bates closed to within 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bowdoin defense clamped down, and allowed just two goals in a stretch of 37 minutes, covering the second and third periods. Bowdoin got a goal from Matt Chadwick briefly before intermission to lead 6-3 at the break and led 7-4 after the third.

The Bobcats could get no closer than three goals for the remainder of the contest, however, as Bowdoin netminder Charlie Legg stopped 10 shots in the game, and got some help from his cage. Bates rang three shots off the post in the fourth quarter and were held scoreless for the final five minutes, despite having two man-up opportunities.

Mullins led a balanced Bowdoin scoring attack that saw eight different players find the back of the net. Mullins led the team with a pair of tallies, while Connor Fitzgerald had thre assists. Sophomore Bryan Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) led the Bobcats with two goals, while senior David Pritchard (Narbeth, Pa.) added two assists. Senior Paul Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) stopped 12 shots in goal for Bates.
