LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Bates men's lacrosse junior midfielder and face-off specialist
Miles Schmidt is a USILA third team All-American and three Bobcats received Honorable Mentions, as announced Wednesday by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Schmidt (Seattle) is joined by senior captain midfielder
Connor Hartman (Hingham, Mass.), junior attacker
Riley McClure (Georgetown, Mass.), and junior defender
Teddy Rosen (New Canaan, Conn.) in receiving recognition for their outstanding seasons for Bates.
This is the second national award Schmidt has received this season, as he was previously named a USA Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention. Schmidt won more than 60 percent of his faceoffs for the second straight campaign, recording a career-high 134 ground balls along the way. Some of his top performances this year included winning a career-high 22 of 25 faceoffs, recording 15 ground balls, and dishing out an assist in a 19-11 win over Connecticut College, winning 15-17 faceoffs in a 17-9 win over Cortland in the second round of the NCAA tournament, and winning 20-23 faceoffs to go along with a career-high 16 ground balls while scoring a goal as well in the third round of NCAAs against Hope.
The three Bates USILA All-America Honorable Mentions were also key factors in the Bobcats making the NCAA "Sweet 16" for the first time since 2017.
Hartman adds to his post-season accolades, having already been named a third team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine and first team All-NESCAC by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. He tallied 50 points on the season (44 goals, six assists) while often being the focus of the opposing team's defensive game plan. Hartman finished the year strong, scoring four goals against Colby in the regular-season finale and following that up with four goals against Amherst in the NESCAC quarterfinal, four goals against Tufts in the NESCAC semifinal, and four goals against Cortland in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Earlier in the season, Hartman scored four goals and dished out an assist in a huge road win at Wesleyan and followed that up with a career-high five goals and one assist in a win over Trinity.
McClure receives the first national honor of his career after earning second team All-NESCAC recognition earlier this year for Bates. He led the Bobcats with 63 points (team-high 48 goals, career-high 13 assists) this season while also recording a career-high 45 ground balls. He matched his career-high with five goals against Trinity, Hamilton, and Colby, all wins for the Bobcats. McClure also tallied a hat trick in the NESCAC quarterfinal win over Amherst, three more goals in the both the conference semifinal against Tufts, and the team's win over Cortland in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Rosen, a second team All-NESCAC defender, also receives his first national accolade after a season that saw him record 45 ground balls and cause a team-high 32 turnovers. One of his most impressive performances came in the NESCAC semifinal when he caused a career-high eight turnovers against two-time defending NCAA Division III champion Tufts.
