BEVERLY, Mass. -- Sophomore attack Justin Simon (Canaan, N.H.) scored four goals to lead the Bates College men's lacrosse team to a season-opening 14-10 win at Endicott College Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (1-0) jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one period, and extended it to 8-3 at halftime, then held off the Gulls (0-1) in the second half to preserve the victory.
Junior Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.), sophomore Mike Medeiros (Concord, Mass.) and junior Wes Couture (South Hadley, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals for Bates. Sophomore Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) had a goal and two assists, while senior David Pritchard (Narbeth, Pa.) had a goal and an assist.
Ryan O'Connor and Brenton Pitt each scored individual goals for Bates, and Craig Blake came up with an assist.
Senior goaltender Paul Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) had six saves in earning the win for Bates.
Burt Fahy scored three times for Endicott; Kevin Lally and Brandon Dube each had a pair of goals, and Dube assisted on four others.
The Bobcats host Amherst College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
