Morin's goal completes men's lacrosse's dramatic comeback at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Sophomore midfielder Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) scored four goals, including the game-winner 1:29 into overtime, to lead the visiting Bates College Bobcats to an 11-10 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field.

Trinity drops to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the NESCAC, while Bates, ranked No. 17 in the nation, improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Bates scored the last six goals of the game over the final 5:23 of regulation and in overtime to come back from a 10-5 deficit.  Trinity sophomore attackman Kris Tedechi (Norwell, Mass.) netted his fourth goal of the game with 6:08 left in the fourth quarter, but Bates junior attackman Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.) tallied three of his four goals in a 4:20 span to make the score 10-8 with 1:03 on the clock.

Morin scored another Bates goal, on the second assist of the period by senior co-captain middie Brenton Pitt (Duxbury, Mass.), to cut the Trinity lead to one with 39 seconds left.  Bobcat sophomore attackman Craig Blake (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) picked up the ball of the ensuing face-off and rushed down the right side of the field, shooting past Bantam senior captain goaltender Jakob Isbrandtsen (Greenwich, Conn.) to tie the score at 10-10 with 28 ticks on the clock.

Trinity was awarded the ball on the final face-off of regulation on a Bates violation and junior attackman Art Schweitzer (Alexandria, Va.) got off a nice shot in the final seconds, but Bates senior co-captain goalie Paul Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) made a clutch save.

Bobcats senior Gabriel Belsky (Avon, Conn.) won the faceoff in overtime and Bates took a couple of errant shots before Morin netted the clincher unassisted.

The Bantams outscored Bates, 8-2, in the second and third quarters as Tedeschi and senior captain middie Chad Burdette (Owings Mills, Md.) each scored three times and junior attacker Curtis Kahn (Cohasset, Mass.) scored twice.

Trinity senior captain midfielder Peter McIntire (Dover, Mass.) recorded five assists and Isbrandtsen stopped 12 shots in goal.

Bates sophomore attacker Mike Medeiros (Concord, Mass.) registered five assists and Kazarian made seven saves in goal.
