BRUNSWICK, Maine -- First-year
Charlotte Crum earned All-State honors and the Bates women's cross country team impressed with a second-place showing at the Maine State Meet on Saturday, finishing first among nine Division III schools at Pickard Field Cross Country Course.
The University of Maine made a rare appearance at the meet and took first place. But the Bobcats scored 63 points and placed second, 20 points ahead of third-place Bowdoin and 45 points ahead of fourth-place Colby.
Crum (Bristol, Vt.) placed fourth in a field of 151 athletes with her 6K time of 21:39.6, tops among all Division III runners. Fellow rookie
Zoe McCullough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) joined Crum in the top 10, crossing the finish line in 21:57.4.
The Bobcats showed off their impressive depth with all five of their scorers finishing in the top 20. Senior captain
Leah White (Ann Arbor, Mich.) recorded a time of 22:03.0 and finished in 14th place while classmate and fellow captain
Gwendolyn Anderson (Boone, N.C.) took 16th in 22:07.4.
First-year
Hannah Fendler (Asheville, N.C.) rounded out the scoring in 20th place with a time of 22:21.1. Sophomore
Lily Day (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and junior
Mikayla Ferguson (Winchester, Mass.) were the displacers for the Bobcats, with Day taking 26th in 22:33.4 and Ferguson 27th in 22:33.6.
Bates is back in action on Friday, Oct. 2 when they compete in the Paul Short Run at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa.
