Baseball picks up six All-State honors from MCBSA

Three Bobcats named first team All-State, three more named second team All-State

LEWISTON, Maine -- The post-season awards continue to roll in for the Bates baseball team, as six Bobcats picked up All-State honors on Tuesday from the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association.

Senior starting pitcher John Tully (Framingham, Mass.), junior designated hitter Henry Prince (McLean, Va.), and sophomore relief pitcher Ezra Pate (Baltimore, Md.) were all named first team All-State. Meanwhile, senior infielder Gibby Sullivan (Yarmouth, Maine), senior outfielder Jack Margiloff (Rye, N.Y.) and junior captain outfielder Keagan Ryan (Salem, N.H.) picked up second team All-State honors.

Tully adds to his post-season accolades, having already been named second team All-NESCAC. The right-hander was lights out for the Bobcats, winning his first four starts of the season on his way to a 6-3 record and a 2.38 ERA, both career-bests. He held opponents to a .244 batting average and walked just 12 batters in 53 innings pitched. During the season, he beat Bowdoin with six innings of two-run ball and ended his career on a high-note with a career-high eight strikeouts in a complete-game 9-1 win over Lesley.

Prince receives well-deserved recognition as he came back strong this year after missing all of last season due to injury. The slugger led the Bobcats with four home runs, including two grand slams. He was second on the team with 34 RBIs and finished tied with Sullivan for third on the Bobcats in OPS at .925. Prince finished the season on a nine-game hitting streak, including a 4-5 performance against Saint Joseph's where he drove in seven runs. Prince led the team with a .558 slugging percentage.

Pate also missed last season due to an injury. The right-hander debuted this year as a reliable arm out of the bullpen for head coach Jon Martin. He tossed eight straight scoreless innings to begin his career and posted a 3.80 ERA in a team-leading 14 appearances. Pate recorded his first collegiate save when he went three innings at Bowdoin to secure a 5-3 win for the Bobcats. He notched his first collegiate win against Husson and picked up save number two in game two of a doubleheader against Lesley.

Sullivan, a first team All-NESCAC selection in addition to his second team All-State recognition, broke the Bates record for RBIs in one season this year with 46. He had by far his best season as a Bobcat, slashing a career-best .336/.416/.509 while scoring 30 runs, smacking a career-high six doubles, and launching three home runs. He had some huge games in NESCAC play, going 4-5 with a run scored and three RBIs in a win over Trinity and 2-4 with two runs scored and six RBIs against Colby.

Like Sullivan, Margiloff saw it all come together this year as well. A second team All-NESCAC selection to go along with second team All-State, the senior outfielder tied Sullivan for the team-lead with 56 total bases. He slashed an impressive .369/.482/.505 on the season and his 41 hits were more than his previous three years combined at Bates. Margiloff drew a team-high 22 walks and his 27 stolen bases in 31 attempts are the second-most in one season in Bates baseball history.

Margiloff's 27 steals are only the second-most because Ryan shattered the Bates record for steals in one season this year with 38 stolen bases in 38 attempts. An ABCA NCAA Division III third team All-Region and first team All-NESCAC selection to go along with second team All-State, Ryan was second in all of NCAA Division III in stolen bases per game. He finished the year ranking second in the NESCAC in on-base percentage at .507 and Ryan's 47 runs scored sets a new Bates single-season record.

The Bobcats finished the year with a record of 20-10, their most wins in one season since 2014 and their best winning percentage since 2010.
