GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Bates junior captain
Keagan Ryan is one of three outfielders named to the ABCA NCAA Div. III Region I All-Defensive Team, as announced Thursday by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Ryan (Salem, N.H.) started all 30 games in center field for the Bobcats and made just one error in 70 chances this season, while recording 65 putouts. He notched four assists, including throwing out a St. Lawrence runner trying to score on a fly out to center in the season-opener.
Bates head coach
Jon Martin described Ryan's defense as "game-changing" and rated both his range and his arm strength as elite within NCAA Division III.
This latest honor for Ryan comes on the heels of him being named ABCA third team All-Region, first team All-NESCAC, and second team All-State.
The Bobcats finished the year with a record of 20-10, their most wins in one season since 2014 and their best winning percentage since 2010.
The All-Defensive teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the
ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee. Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 41 countries.
