LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates baseball senior outfielder
Gibby Sullivan and junior relief pitcher
Theo Zacharia have both earned spots on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, as the latest edition was unveiled on Wednesday.
This is the second time Sullivan (Yarmouth, Maine) has been named to the Team of the Week in his career. He was one of three outfielders chosen thanks to a week that saw Sullivan record three straight multi-hit and multi-RBI games to begin the season for Bates. He finished the week having reached base nine times (.692 OBP), driving in seven runs with a pair of extra-base hits as the Bobcats took two of three from St. Lawrence.
This is the first such honor for Zacharia (Manhasset, N.Y.), as he was the only relief pitcher chosen. Zacharia came out of the bullpen and silenced the St. Lawrence bats in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. He tossed four shutout innings to earn his first collegiate win, allowing the Bobcats to turn a 6-0 deficit into a 13-6 victory in the rubber match of their three-game series with the Saints.
It's the first time in program history the Bates baseball team has placed two players on the Team of the Week in the same week.
The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its 15th season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors.Â
The Bobcats (2-1) are back in action at Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, N.Y. this Saturday when they take on Vassar at 9 a.m. and host Bard at noon.Â
