MIDDLETOWN, Conn.-- No. 24 Bates College men's squash, playing its first match since Jan. 19, showed no sign of rust as the Bobcats outlasted No. 26 Wesleyan Sunday in a 5-4 thriller.
With the contest tied at 4-all, it would be
Tanish Tangri carrying the Bobcats to victory as the first-year clinched a five-game triumph in the No. 6 slot. Trailing Wesleyan's Matthyaz Williams, 2-1, a determined Tangri rallied for wins of 11-8 and 12-10 to send off his opponent and seal the road "W" for Bates.
Teammate
John Kim also needed five games to secure his win at No. 7, defeating Zachary Idinopulos by the scores of 9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 7-11, 11-3.
Dennis Welte (No. 1),
Ashton Monteiro (No. 2), and
Tommy Le (No. 5) each locked down 3-0 shutouts in their respective outings.
Bates (4-7) snaps a four-match slide with the win. Wesleyan dips to 6-7 with the setback.
The garnet and white now returns home to host No. 21 Bowdoin Friday night (6:00 p.m.) at the Bates Squash Center on what will be senior night for the Bobcats.
