Babacar Pouye is the Maine Player of the Week for the second time this season, as announced Wednesday by the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association.
Pouye (Carpinteria, Calif.) carried the Bobcats to a pair of wins the past two games with a pair of double-doubles. He tallied 23 points on 9-13 shooting, 16 rebounds, six assists, and two blocked shots in an 82-79 win over then-No. 25 nationally ranked Maryville on Dec. 30. Then he poured in 25 points on 10-18 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out four assists, and blocked a career-high six shots in a 90-72 win over Colby on Jan. 4. Pouye leads the Bobcats in both scoring (15.3 PPG) and rebounding (9.5 RPG) this season. He is tied for first in the NESCAC in blocked shots per game at 1.6.
Pouye was previously recognized by the MMBCWA on Nov. 18 when he was named the state's co-player of the week.
The Bobcats (11-1) have matched their best start through 12 games to a season in program history and open NESCAC play this Friday when they visit Amherst for a 7 p.m. tip.
